Art Basel 2014 through the lens of performance

Art Market | Presented by the Beyeler Foundation, Art Basel and the Theater Basel in a building newly designed by Herzog & De Meuron, the 2014 event inaugurates a performance-dedicated venue with a programme put together by two curators with global reach : Klaus Biesenbach, director of MoMA PS1, and Hans Ulrich Obrist, artistic director of the Serpentine gallery in London. 14 rooms or 14 performance spaces which reactivate historic or recent performances from 14 artists identified by the international market. This communicative event was preceded by « 11 rooms » in Manchester, « 12 rooms » at the Ruhrtriennale and « 13 rooms » at the Kaldor Public Art Projects. Performance is redefined as a mediator within the very confines of the hugely influential Basel art show, attracting a specially selected audience in search of an immersive experience.
