Art Market | Every year, Sotheby’s organizes a prestigious auction in Doha, Qatar while Christie’s and Bonhams continue their implantation in Dubai. Sotheby’s sales, built on local/global synergy, are unique in forging links between globally-known Western artists and those from the Middle East. Set at the Katara Art Center, Sotheby’s October 2014 sale brought together 52 lots of which 44 sold, a sales rate of 85%. Among the 13 records set, Ali Banisadr’s « The Chase » sold for $557,000, well over the $250,000 estimate, Abdullah Qandeel’s painting « The Enemy Within » (estimated at $20,000/30,000) sold for $209,000.
