Penone: from Versailles to S2 Sothebys Gallery in New York

Art Market | Several months after Versailles, 34 Giuseppe Penone pieces (principally drawings) have been gathered by the Sotheby’s auction house in an exhibition entitled « When Man Meets Nature » at its New York S2 space dedicated to private sales. As a complement to the selling season (Sam Francis, Warhol, Basquiat, Kusama, Joseph Beuys, etc.), S2, which opened in 2011, hosts prestigious exhibitions with the aim of marketing and commercialising historic, « valuable » and « rising artists ». And the concept is being rolled out in London with the October 2013 opening of a new S2 space - located behind the parent company on Saint George Street - which is poised to become the « Mecca » of Prestige galleries (Victoria Miro, Eykyn Maclean, etc.).
